How to choose a bathroom fitter (without getting caught out)

A bathroom is one of the bigger jobs you will have done in your home. These are the checks that genuinely matter.

Get it in writing, itemised

A one-line price on a text message is not a quote. You want the suite, tiling, flooring, electrics, waste removal and labour listed, so you can compare like with like and know what is excluded.

Read the recent reviews, not just the score

Look for reviews that mention tidiness, timekeeping and whether the final bill matched the quote. Those three things tell you far more than a headline rating.

Ask whether the people who quote are the people who will be in your house.

Watch for these

Large deposits requested up front, pressure to decide on the day, no fixed start date, and heavy use of subcontractors you have never met. A busy fitter with a waiting list is usually a good sign, not a bad one.

Thinking about a new bathroom?
