What drives the cost
Labour days are the biggest factor. Moving the WC or bath to a different wall means new waste runs and floor work, which adds days. Keeping the layout broadly the same is the single biggest saving available.
Where money is well spent
Brassware, the shower valve and the tray or bath are worth buying well, they are used every day and are expensive to change later. Waterproofing and preparation are never worth cutting.
Where you can save
Panelling instead of full tiling, a standard-size suite rather than bespoke, and keeping the existing radiator position all reduce cost without affecting how long the room lasts.
